Support for children with Autism
by Sonja Walker
Children with autism are making huge progress as they enjoy Bright Start, Kids First's Early Intervention program for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and other developmental delays.
Bright Start is an innovative weekly class that helps pre-schoolers with special needs to get ready for school.
Bright Start’s two and half hour morning sessions gives special needs children the chance to become familiar with the routines that will be part of their school lives, while also providing high quality Early Intervention.
Under the guidance of our specialist Speech and Occupational Therapists, Bright Start children aged 4 to 6 learn to communicate and socialise with other kids. They also benefit from important opportunities to develop early literacy and numeracy, fine motor and gross motor skills.
For any special needs child who has had individual Speech Therapy or Occupational Therapy in the past, Bright Start offers a new and very important group environment in which to learn and grow.
Exposure to the social and emotional demands of being with peers is a proven way of helping children with Autism to become more independent and self-reliant and Bright Start is making a big difference to many children's behavioural and language skills.
Indeed, parents of Bright Start 'graduates' have told us that their children's transition to school was made much easier as a result of the skills they learned during the program.
And the news gets even better...Bright Start is an accredited program under the Helping Children with Autism initiative, making it easier and very affordable for children to access the support they need.
Places are still available, so if you know a child who would benefit from a Bright Start, call Kids First today.
