When should I call Kids First?
It is our experience that a parent’s ‘gut instinct’ is very rarely wrong. If you are concerned about any aspect of your child’s learning at school or pre-school, or if your child has language, behaviour or motor coordination concerns, give us a call.
If your child has been diagnosed with additional needs or needs the care and expertise of clinical experts Kids First’s large team of experienced children’s health professionals and teachers is here to help.
What qualifications do Kids First’s teachers and children’s health professionals have?
Every member of Kids First’s team is a university educated professional with years of practical experience in classrooms, clinics, community health and private practice.
Kids First’s professionals are members of nationally recognised professional associations such as:
• Speech Pathology Australia
• The Australian Psychological Society
• OT Australia
• NSW Teachers’ Federation
• Australian Tutoring Association
Does Kids First offer a free assessment to determine my child’s learning needs?
Yes. A free 30 minute learning assessment is available to every school aged child to determine which Kids First service is most appropriate for their needs.
Learning assessments are conducted by Kids First Director Sonja Walker.

Are educational programs offered by the school term?
Yes. Kids First’s after school programs for school aged children are offered by the school term.
Kids First’s early education and social skills program, Confident Little Kids is also offered by the school term.
When can I book a place for my child in a Kids First program?
Bookings open one month prior to the commencement of the next term.
Priority enrolment is offered to continuing students who should confirm their place for the following term by the last day of the current term.
What is the duration of each after school tuition class?
Kids First’s after school classes are taught by qualified, experienced teachers and run for 60 minutes.
How often would my child need to attend Kids First?
Most children attend their chosen Kids First program once a week.
What benefits would my preschooler gain from attending Kids First?
Your pre-schooler will benefit from the support and expert encouragement of fully qualified and experienced professionals at Kids First.
Our team members work closely with local pre-schools and schools and understand the Emergent Curriculum. We can help your child to develop the language, learning, emotional and behavioural skills to make the best possible start to school.
Kids First affordable small group programs and individual therapy services are developed in accordance with recent Australian research ^ that indicates that pre-schoolers who participate in early education experiences provided by qualified teachers enjoy significant later learning, language and social advantages.
This study also shows that improved future literacy and numeracy outcomes are enjoyed by Kindergarten children whose early learning has been nurtured in small groups facilitated by qualified professionals.
Do I need a doctor’s referral for my child to receive therapy support at Kids First?
No. A doctor’s referral is not a pre-requisite for any Kids First health service. If you seek Medicare support for health services at Kids First, please consult with your family doctor about a GP Management or Team Care Arrangement for your child. For more infomation click here
Does Kids First have waiting lists?
No. Currently, all of Kids First’s services have availability; however there is heavy demand for some therapy services after school and on Saturdays.
Does Kids First offer services during the school holidays?
School Holiday Programs
Yes. Children’s health services continue throughout the school holidays. We also offer enjoyable workshops to enhance children’s development and learning.
During the summer school holidays, Kids First closes between Christmas and New Year. Health services and holiday workshops resume in the second week of January.
Can Kids First’s therapists visit my child at school or pre-school?
Yes. Kids First’s Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists welcome the opportunity to observe your child at pre-school.
Pre-school visits can enhance your child’s therapy by allowing your child’s therapist to see how your child relates to peers and functions within the pre-school environment. Pre-school visits offer valuable support and information to your child’s preschool carers.
Do Kids First’s therapists provide support to children in schools?
Yes. Kids First’s Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists frequently work in schools.
Our team members provide support to small groups of students who enjoy our Write Away handwriting and fine motor program.
We also work with individual students providing convenient in-school therapy that supports children’s classroom learning
Are members of the Kids First team available to give presentations, training and seminars to parents or staff at my child’s pre-school or pre-school?
Yes. Kids First welcomes the opportunity to work with parents and staff in schools and pre-schools.

We can also work with your school or pre-school to develop specifically targeted programs that meet your community’s needs.
Can I use my health fund to pay for Kids First’s health & therapy services?
Yes. All of Kids First’s children’s health services are eligible for health fund rebates.
Please check with your fund for the specifics of your policy and the level of cover it offers to you.
Are Medicare rebates available for Kids First’s health & therapy services?
Yes. Medicare rebates are available to children who have been authorised by their GP or paediatrician to receive care under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) items (721-731).
In the past, this plan has been referred to as an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC); however this term is now obsolete.

Can I use my child’s FaHCSIA funding at Kids First?
Yes. Kids First is an experienced provider of FaHCSIA funded Early Intervention services.
We are fully approved by the Australian Government to provide multi-disciplinary support to children eligible for:
• Helping Children with Autism initiative
• Better Start for Children with Disability initiative
