Rebates for Children’s Health Services at Kids First
Funding and Rebates
Medicare
Medicare provides support to families through a variety of rebate programs. Your child’s eligibility for this support will be determined and co-ordinated by your family doctor or paediatrician.
1. The Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative
This program covers conditions such as; anxiety, depression, ADHD, ADD and sleeping, eating and bi-polar disorders. Treatments include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Social Skills Training. Kids First is happy to assist your child in accordance with this program. To check if your child is eligible, please contact your GP.
2. Chronic Disease Management (CDM)
This program used to be called the Enhanced Primary Health Care Program. It provides up to 5 rebated sessions per year for children and adolescents who require medium to long term support from Allied Health professionals like Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists.
Under this scheme, your child may be eligible for one of the following plans:
- GP Management Plans (GPMP)
- Team Care Arrangement (TCA)
Kids First welcomes children who are referred by their doctor for a CDM Plan. To check if your child is eligible, please contact your GP. Further information is available through the Department of Health and Ageing, Enhanced Primary Health Care Program website.

FaHCSIA - Helping Children with Autism
This Australian Government program supports early intervention treatment for children aged up to 7 years and additional support for children aged 7- 12 with an ASD. To be eligible for this program, your child must have an ASD diagnosis and receive support from an accredited Helping Children with Autism early intervention provider like Kids First. FaHCSIA - Better Start for Children with a Disability
Better Start provides funding to children aged 0-6 and diagnosed with conditions such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Fragile X Syndrome, hearing impairment and sight impairment.
Funding can only be used to pay for therapies provided by Government approved Early Intervention services. Kids First is an approved Better Start provider.
Health Funds
All of the children’s health professionals at Kids First are registered for private health insurance rebates. Your level of cover will be determined by your specific policy details.
