Enrolments for Bright Start classes in 2010 are open nowBright Start - for special needs kids

Bright Start is an innovative school readiness and social skills program for pre-schoolers with special needs.

Catering particularly to children diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and other developmental delays, Bright Start supports children aged four and five as they develop the language and learning skills needed for a smooth transition to mainstream schooling and Kindergarten classes.

Bright Start is a child centred program that is facilitated by members of Kids First’s highly experienced Early Intervention team for special needs children.

With the help of our Special Educators, Speech Pathologists and Child Psychologists, Bright Start children learn to interact appropriately with their peers, develop self confidence and become more independent.

Enjoyable music, games and stories are all part of Bright Start and children are also encouraged to develop their familiarity and understanding of:

•    Classroom routines
•    Sounds, letters and numbers
•    Early reading and literacy strategies
•    Correct pencil grip and early handwriting skills
•    Social skills such as listening, speaking, turn taking and sharing
•    Learning behaviours such as following instructions and being part of a small group

Bright Start’s small groups contain a maximum of six children.

Offered every term in weekly or twice weekly sessions, each lasting two and half hours, Bright Start provides children with the benefits of peer group interaction while also guaranteeing personal support for each child.

Kids First is an approved Early Intervention Panel Provider in the Federal Government’s Helping Children with Autism funding initiative.

Children who are eligible for support through this program are welcome to use their funding to access Bright Start.
